Teaching American History

Target Audience: Teachers of U.S. History in Grades 5-12

In 2004, team members began presenting problem-based learning professional development workshops for teachers of U.S. History.  The program was offered to teachers in the states of Washington, Montana, Utah, and Idaho through two Teaching American History grants, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  Traveling to various sites in the northwest, our team provided summer workshops in designing and implementing U.S. History PBL lessons.  Graduate history courses featuring PBL approaches were also offered online through Seattle Pacific University.  Approximately 500 teachers participated in the program over a six year period.
